I am a husband and father of three boys. While I began my career in the animation industry, working for such companies as Sony, Disney and Digital Domain, I have switched careers to be a research scientist. I recently graduated with a PhD in Computer Science at UNC-Chapel Hill where I focused on Augmented and Virtual Reality, and am currently working for Disney Imagineering Research and Development where we develop new technologies for use in the theme parks. Through my research career, I have delved into the topics of Computer Vision, Robotics, Machine Learning, Human Perception, Computer Graphics, and Optics. My dissertation consisted of designing and constructing new computational displays for augmented reality.
Among my obvious interests of animation and VR, I have been known to practice gymnastics, mostly tumbling. I enjoy design and prototyping parts through both additive and subtractive techniques, and would consider myself a maker. Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author, and I always enjoy a good fantasy or science fiction book. Schlock Mercenary is also a favorite daily read. I enjoy biking and swimming and have competed in a couple triathlons.
